Forging is the thermo-mechanical process of shaping metal using force and heat. Forging may be performed for a number of reasons, but the primary reasons are to improve the structure and properties of the metal and to hot form the metal into size and shape that is nearer to the finished size of the parts that will be made from the material.
The workpiece is heated to a temperature which permits the metal to be formed under a mechanical forging press. The temperature at which titanium alloys are forged is very important to the quality of the product and therefore requires significant technical knowledge to insure that it is done carefully and precisely. As the metal is shaped during the forging process the internal grain structure is altered, compressed and refined. The result is generally improved mechanical characteristics, a more desirable crystalline grain structure, and nearer-net size material or components which leads to a reduction in machining time and thus cost savings. Titanium Engineers has over 25 years of experience forging various titanium alloys, therefore you can be assured that our processes are proven, reliable, and produce the highest quality titanium forgings. We specialize in high strength titanium alloys such as NACE MR0175 listed grades Ti 6246 (6-2-4-6) and Ti Beta-C. We have the capability to forge round bars, rings, discs, or multi-dimensional shapes. |
